The ruins of Panama La Vieja are located on the east side of Panama City. Founded August 15th, 1519 by Governor Pedrarias Davila. Through this city, all the gold arriving from Peru passed by towards Portobelo and Nombre de Dios in order to be shipped to Spain.
The City was burned down several times and many attacked by pirates that´s why Panama La Vieja never reached its development and moved to the other side of the city where now the Casco Antiguo is located.
When you tour the ruins, you may visit the Panama La Vieja Museum on your City Tour before walking by the ruins so that you can get a better idea of the history behind them.
